Martin Scorsese's long-awaited gangster epic "Killers of the Flower Moon" received 10 nominations, while Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach's live-action "Barbie" movie surprisingly managed to snag 8 nominations.

The Biggest Snubs

There were a few notable snubs this year. Damien Chazelle's space opera "Babylon" was completely shut out, as was Steven Spielberg's historical drama "The Fabelmans." Many were also surprised to see that Jennifer Lawrence and Florence Pugh were not nominated for their performances in "American Hustle," while Leonardo DiCaprio's absence from the Best Actor race for his role in "Killers of the Flower Moon" was also a shock.

The Major Categories

The race for Best Picture is shaping up to be a close one, with "Oppenheimer," "Poor Things," "Killers of the Flower Moon," and "Barbie" all considered to be frontrunners. The Best Director race is also hotly contested, with Nolan, Lanthimos, Scorsese, and Baumbach all vying for the coveted golden statuette.

Other Highlights

Ariana DeBose is the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress for her breakout role in "West Side Story."
